Who we are
TruthLens is an evidence-assessment tool that lets you cross-reference news claims, locations and charities against open data sources. This policy explains what personal data we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. It applies to our website and our mobile app.
What data we collect
- Account details: your email address and an encrypted (hashed) password.
- Your searches: the claims, locations and charities you check, and the results we generate.
- Payment records: when you buy credits or a subscription, payments are handled securely by Stripe. We store a record that a payment happened, but we never see or store your full card number.
- Basic technical data: information needed to keep the service secure and working, such as sign-in activity.
How we use your data
- To create and secure your account.
- To run the verification searches you request and show your history.
- To process payments and manage your credits or subscription.
- To send you essential emails such as email verification, password resets and payment receipts.
We never sell your data
We do not sell or rent your personal data to anyone. We only share data with the trusted services that make TruthLens work — for example Stripe for payments and our hosting and email providers — and only as needed to run the service.
Data sources we query
When you run a search we query public, open data sources including GDELT (news), NASA GIBS (satellite imagery) and the UK Charity Commission. Your search terms are sent to these services to return results.
Deleting your account and data
You can delete your account and all associated data at any time. This permanently removes your account, your searches and your payment records from our database. See our Delete Account page for step-by-step instructions.
